A cosa ispirarci?

Al grido "to protect and play!" vi saluto,

Paolo

It seems only yesterday when Umberto, Giulio and I were on Skype to discuss how to make the intro: After having discarded actors Hollywood actors, the “The big Robots” like Michael Bay’s ones and Lucasfilm’s special effects, we decided that a animated intro was the most suitable to the spirit of the series .

At least one point was decided ... Ok, but how to achieve it? What inspiration? Immediately our thoughts went to the opening of the British series "Misfits" and the end credits of the movie "A Series of Unfortunate Events," we have really enjoyed the idea of seeing the characters move like a shadow puppet theater.

So we started an intense brainstorming and storyboarding as the intro was completed: we decided that, since the characters were shadows or if you prefer colored shapes, they had to have their own "Paper theater"... words must seem to walk on some kind of parchment (Umberto gave me the idea of how to start the quoting the Marauder's Map from Harry Potter as an example). After several attempts and wasted Photoshop layer we created the texture that would accompany the whole production.

After the most creative phase the time for “practical stuff” came: we had to count the scenes and actions to make them stay in 47 seconds and, in case of a surplus, cut them ... I assure you that it was not easy, a simple animation more than the necessary could have make the time burst. An example of this: in the intro, when Silvia went out of the elevator she should have helped Marco to climb over the railing, but this action stretched the whole for several seconds, so it was decided to delete it.

After re-editing the storyboard, I began to draw all character’s animation keys (frame are the most important of all movement) and then pass to Alessio that made animation in Flash. Last step, everything passed through Luca’s capable hands, which mounted the animations and added visual effects.

In conclusion, thanks to the combined forces of my creative team (post-production by Luca Bonatti and animation by Alessio Frascati) the intro came to life and thanks to the note of Michele Reali has become the symbol that you will learn to know and, hopefully, to love.

The race has just begun, fasten your seat belts because the roller coaster of LARPers is about to start and you will see some good ones!

Yelling "to protect and play!" I greet you,

Paolo
