14 Marzo 2013
E invece no!
Bene.
No, lo è stata davvero, giuro!
Come?

Almost a year ago, Umberto introduced me for the first time to his porject: LARPers.
For those few of you who don’t know about it yet, the two of us are live action role-players, and it was during one of our game session that Umberto approched me with the proposal to collaborate. His move has been pretty smart, he took the long road, feeding me with the right amount of flatteries (a great number actually) and then he shot his best one. He gave me the first draft of first episode, he patted me on the shoulder and walked away, asking me to give a try. I remember I stood there, sheets in hand, considering about giving them a look or not. Looking back at it I think part of me already knew that by the exact moment I’d read that script, I’d been caught. Making the long story short, after a couple minutes with the privacy of the best place where to read a screenplay, I literally got lost in those quick and exhilarating pages. Of course that was just a draft, characters were sketched and gags were rough, but I knew that Umberto scored a good one.
The same day (maybe the next one) Paolo got on board and we bid farewell with the promise to “get together on Skype asap”. Driving back home, leaving behind the friends of GRVItalia, the atmoshpere and the suspension of disbelieve, I felt the enthusiasm about Larpers slowly fading away, like the memory of a summerlove, sealed by the evergreen “I’ll write to you”.
I was wrong!
Prompt and compelling like no one but Umberto can be (blessed his determination), the next week he called me and suddenly, unbelievable things started to run.
We wrote the first series in a relatively short span of time. And allow me here, ‘cause it’s the right thing to do. I ask forgiveness to my co-writers for all the delays they suffered. Especially when the appointments were fixed on sunday mornings.
Step by step, piece by piece the story of Marco and Silvia took life in our hands. I could spend years telling you how wonderful is creating characters out of nowhere, make them live within a story and so on. I won’t do that, because everything it’s real.
Every single day we turn the plot insideout, we change it, we adapt it looking for the right match.
Do you realize how hard it is to convey three different people laughing about the same joke?
It’s really hard.
Graphic contribution from Paolo helped to keep the enthusiasm high, and by when the first sketches of the opening credits came out, we started to realize that something was really happening.
At this point sounds fair mentioning someone without whom, today, we would still be arranging third episode’s plot (at best).
Daniela.
Daniela, with her extraordinary gentleness, always made us aware when it was the right moment to end.
Have I mentioned she was gentle? Yeah? Good.
No really, she was, I swear!
Actually it was stimulating for us having someone reading the fresh episodes, in order to work properly, and feeding up the little hedonist man lodging deep down in our hearts.
And so, in the general astonishment (or at least it was for me) LARPers came to life.
The last heated discussion about the closing scene and then... BOOM!
It was done. Finished.
It was terrific.
Naive and inexperienced, I did not know that the real work would have started right in that moment. We (and you) will have plenty of time to talk about the ups and downs of series production. Yet the fact is, almost a year after I was asked to lay a hand on the project, as well as mind and expectation, we come forth today to face a new challenge: to realize it.
So far, much of what already happened strikes me, and I bear no will in breaking the record.
LARPers is coming.
But how? Come visiting us once in a while to find out.
Until then...
To Protect and Play!
See ya
Giù.
